MetLife separation of a substantial portion of its U.S. Retail segment

Many of you likely saw the news in January that MetLife intends to pursue the separation of a substantial portion of its U.S. Retail segment. You can view applicable details at the links below, but in short this strategy is expected to relieve MetLife of the increased regulatory requirements that are a part of being considered a “Systemically Important Financial Institution” or SIFI.

As part of this strategy, we also recently learned of MetLife’s intent to sell the MetLife Premier Client Group to Mass Mutual. According to CNBC, they have reached an agreement with Mass Mutual.
